World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Virtual Program

Join the FBI Tampa Citizens Academy Alumni Association for a special virtual presentation in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults.

FBI subject matter experts will discuss the growing threat of elder fraud and financial exploitation, sharing insights on current scams targeting seniors, warning signs to watch for, and practical steps individuals, families, and caregivers can take to protect themselves and their loved ones.

According to the FBI, “Each year, millions of elderly Americans fall victim to some type of financial fraud or confidence scheme, including romance, lottery, and sweepstakes scams—just to name a few.” These crimes can have devastating financial and emotional consequences, making education and awareness critical tools in prevention.

This informative session will provide attendees with valuable resources, real-world examples, and actionable strategies to help safeguard our senior community. Together, we can increase awareness, promote prevention, and support the safety and well-being of older adults.

Official Site: Community Outreach — FBI

The Federal Teen Academy program allows a diverse group of high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and to investigate the world of law enforcement. Active explorations of fitness and forensic science grow students’ minds and bodies while age-appropriate lessons on topics such as violence prevention, sextortion, and hoax threats teach them how to stay safe.

FBI staff, including special agents, intelligence analysts, and professional staff, lead discussions and interactive sessions focused on the work we do, how we do it, and, most importantly, why we choose this work in service of all Americans.

Any student with an interest in leadership and service is welcome to apply for this free opportunity. An interest in a law enforcement career is not a pre-requisite.
