Presentation: Investigative Genetic Genealogy

Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) has emerged as an important investigative tool, combining DNA analysis with genealogical research to help generate investigative leads, identify unknown individuals, and advance cases that may have remained unresolved through traditional investigative methods.

During this Lunch & Learn, Special Agent David Brown, the FBI Tampa Division's Investigative Genetic Genealogy Coordinator, will provide attendees with insight into IGG and its role in modern investigations.

The presentation will offer an opportunity to learn from an experienced investigator whose career has included violent crime, transnational organized crime, child exploitation investigations, and cold case work.

About the Speaker

Special Agent David Brown is currently assigned to the FBI Tampa Division's Pinellas Resident Agency. He has served with the FBI for more than seven years and is a member of the Tampa Bay Violent Crime/Safe Streets Task Force. He also serves as the Tampa Division's Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) Coordinator.

Prior to joining the Tampa Division, SA Brown served in the FBI's Child Exploitation Operational Unit (CEOU) in Washington, D.C., a selective unit focused on international investigations involving crimes against children.

Before his assignment to CEOU, he served in the FBI Springfield Division's Quad Cities Resident Agency in Illinois, where he was the division's IGG Coordinator and led a Safe Streets and Transnational Organized Crime Task Force targeting complex criminal networks.

Before beginning his FBI career, SA Brown served in local law enforcement in the St. Louis metropolitan area. During five years as a police officer and later detective, he investigated major violent crimes and served on the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, a regional homicide task force.

SA Brown's extensive investigative background provides a unique perspective on the intersection of traditional investigative techniques, advanced DNA technology, and genealogical research.
